SE or Aspencade?

Post by hyperfamilyman »

I absolutely love my GoldWing and have no regrets at all in purchasing it.

I was just looking at the owners manual and now I am confused on what model I have.

The rear end says Aspencade, but according to the manual only SE models have the CB and I have the left hand controls for the CB and radio.

The manual also says the radio fader knob should be on the side of the left hand controls and mine in in the middle of the handle bars near the gold wing badge.

Not sure if I have a frankenbike or what. Maybe someone with more knowledge can enlightenment me. And TBH most people on this site have more knowledge than I do about these bikes.

Thank you in advance for any replies.

The CB could be a dealer add on, and I think that fader is also a factory add on.

Do you have a rear spoiler brake light and adjustable passenger foot boards? Those were SE only, but could of still been added on after purchase.
I think only the SE has the front foot heater things.

No adjustable rear foot rest, but they do flip up. No spoiler at all.

Here is a photo of the CB set and left hand controls along with the rear foot rest flipped up.

No spoiler or adjustable passenger footrest, it is an Aspencade for sure then.

The SE had two tone paint as well. I have a 92 Interstate that has the CB radio that was surely added on later.

Depends on the year. I have a solid white '94 SE.

OK, My mistake but all the SEs I have seen were two tone. I stand corrected.

I don't believe my buddy's black '94 SE had two tone paint. But after 30 years my remembries are getting rough around the edges. 🙄🤔😊

Honda put those faders all over the place. And that one doesn't have a stock knob as they matched the radio.

The best way to check what model you have is to find the VIN number under the front plastic, should be able to get to without taking plastic off. The model will be on there. Here is a pic of the VIN sticker from my ex-1500. Check the lower left corner:

I had an '86 Aspencade and now have a '94 Aspencade. The SE is supposed to have more features but that is subjective to the rider. For example, the '94 SE has "Curb Lights" which turn on when going around corners or when the blinker is on. My Aspencade, they are fog lights and are on when the bike is on.

Each have their ups and downs but I don't see ever leaving the Aspencades.
