Self Cancelling Turn Signals
Self Cancelling Turn Signals
I did try to search for this (honest) but no luck. Can someone explain how the self-cancelling turn signals on GL1500 are supposed to work? I'm talking the logic behind it; timers. speed sensor, just how they're supposed to work

Seem like maybe it based on distance and not speed. Found the distance to be a little on short side maybe for my liking. Always have to use signals again when it cancel too soon coming to stops. Although once you used to them its so nice they self cancel.

Re: Self Cancelling Turn Signals
This feels a little like a test back in school, I had to research this a few months ago, lets see how much I remember.
The cancel relay first of all is what actually activates the turn signal flasher, that's how it can control when it is turned off. It is signaled by the turn signal switch to turn on the signals, the pulsed signal from the turn relay goes to the turn switch where it is sent by the turn signal switch to the right or left side as the case may be. During this the cancel switch is monitering the distance traveled and will shut off the turn signals after about 500 feet if moving (they will stay on forever if you are sitting in one place) or after a turn or after getting a cancel signal from the turn signal switch. The hazzard flashers are a separate system with it's own flasher relay.
And that teacher is pretty much what I can recall.

Try to learn from the mistakes of others..... you won't live long enough to make them all yourself!

In addition to a speed signal, it also gets a steering angle signal. It uses both of those to decide if the signals will stay on too long or too short. IMHO
