Hi all,
I just had my alternator die on me again , i changed it last septembre , and just last week-end it died again , i see that many of you guys go with the 90 amps alternator , so i decided to give it a try .
I looked on the internet to get one and i noticed that there are a few brands out there . . . LActrical , DB Electronics and few others , my question is : Is the brand that important or is it good as long as its a 90 amps alternator , because the LActrical one is unavailable and the DB Electronics one can't be delivered to Quebec Canada , but i found one from a website that delivers to my place and is kind of cheap too , only $228.00 , am i missing something here ?
Thanks for the input

Google part number LR140-708C, this is a Hitachi alternator purported to be 90 amps, last I saw it was under $150 USD from Walmart and a plethora of other sellers.
I have one on my '93 installed by the PO, presumably in 1995 when he added the 400 watt Kenwood amp and the subwoofer to the stereo (paperwork to show date of stereo install) . 57,000 miles on the bike now, not a lick of trouble. Hitachi made the OEM 40 amp alternators, too, until the '96 models when Honda switched to a Chinese supplier.
Don't know the availability of this in Canada, but worth a google search. Maybe Walmart ships to Canada, too.

I Googled for the LR140-708C alternator and on every website it tells me that its a 40 amps alternator , and i had one few years back and it was a 40 amps , but thanks anyway for the reply .

Thanks DenverWinger, i'll check into that a little closer
Re: Alternator . . . . again !!!
I went through the same thing you are going through with alternators, aftermarket units would last 10-25K miles and they were toast. I always carry a spare alternator with me and had to change out three times on the side of the road over the past few years. this year I got fed up with the aftermarket alternators and spent the 644.00 canadian and bought a new OEM honda alternator. So far so good, hopefully this one will last for 70-80k miles.
Looking back I would have been better off buying an OEM in the first place because the cost of all the aftermarket units together cost more than an OEM

Re: Alternator . . . . again !!!
I got a LAtrical for Christmas a few years back and installed it. It causes my '94' Aspencade to vibrate like mad from about 1200 to 2000 RPM. I took it back out and put in the factory one. Smooth as silk. So I disassembled the LActrical and find the bearings are not the highest quality and there is a good amount of end-play on the rotor when assembled. I tried thinking of a way to take up the thrust but couldn't figure a sure-fire way so I shelved the LActrical.
I reinstalled it a few weeks ago to see what I had been mad at and sure enough... bike shakes like a hula girl at certain RPM about 1200 to 2000. I'm going to take it back out this week and shelve it for good or sell it. I think it will wind up damaging something. I'm thinking cheap bearings but it may be the rotor is unbalanced but such a small part shouldn't have the kind of imbalance I'm seeing and it would probably cost more than it's worth to have the assembly balanced and good bearings installed.
