Windshield

Post by SirGB »

While watching Goldwing docs on YouTube I noticed the windshield on your white gl1500 and would like to know where you got it as I’m having a difficult time trying to find a tall sloped back touring windshield which is wide enough that will eliminate buffeting at highway speed.

Thank you for the info. I live in Edmonton, Alberta in Canada and it’s difficult when after market parts are needed and there isn’t a local distributor that can help or at least guide you in the right direction.

Amazon or Ebay ?
this is the one i have I love hiding behind it for the wind and cold

https://www.amazon.com/Slipstreamer-Win ... 111&sr=8-1

the one I have I bought from another GW owner locally for about $10?
I've spent a couple hours trying to make mine more "Optically" Clear, but I'm tossing the towel for now

I ordered this last night, this one is "normal" height, I like being able to easily peak over in the rain

too bad you are not local, I would let you have my old tall windshield. It is sitting in my closet, and will probably toss it soon.

Hi Blupupher, did I read your reply correctly, that you will send your old windshield to me if I pay the shipping ?
Best regards, SirGB.

sorry, no, I do not want to mess with boxing it up and shipping it, even if you paid.
If you could show up at my house I would give it to you though.

The windshield you see on my bike in the videos is a Tulsa Tall, they have not been made in quite a few years now.

Is there a manufacturer in Canada or USA that makes a Polycarbonate windshield that I’m looking for that is tall and wide enough to prevent buffeting at highway speeds ?
I have an order through Optic Armor for my 1997 gl1500SE, that has 60k kilometres, purchased from the original owner and was always parked in a heated garage. The Optic Armor windshield was shipped damaged in stock dimensions 6 months ago and am still waiting for the replacement +4 Optic Armor windshield with vent that I originally ordered.
That is why I’m reaching out to you for some alternative windshields that meet my requirements and a very quick delivery time. Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated.
I would also like to thank you for Goldwing Docs excellent instructional videos and Q & A on YouTube, they are very helpful and informative.
Best regards,
SirGB.

If you're open to trying something other than a giant fixed screen, you could take a look at Madstad engineering. They make a killer adjustable screen that completely fixed the buffeting for me. It uses intelligent engineering to create a smaller screen that directs the flow of turbulent air away from the rider without resorting to a wall of plastic that inevitably gets covered in bugs, dirt and scratches...

The other upside of the smaller adjustable screen is greatly increased airflow in the cockpit. Makes it much more comfortable on hot days, as the vents on my jacket and helmet actually get some air. It also reminds me that I'm riding a motorcycle and not sitting in a car :D

I ordered mine in August 2020 and it arrived in Toronto in a little over a week. I actually got a call from a customer service rep a few days after it arrived just to check and see how the install had gone. Highly recommend.

BTW, you can see the 16" Madstad screen on my bike in my profile pic.
