Radio Mute problem

I have also posted this in the Tech Talk area.
I am having the "Mute Problem" The mute light comes on the the system mutes. It does this on its own. I have soldered the two wires together as I have no need to mute. This worked for a few minutes and the problem returned. I have opened the radio area and pulled the plugs and replugged them several times and found no loose wires or corroded connections.
I did notice that the ability to change stations goes away when the mute light come on.
I am lost and would love to have some help with this problem.
I want to go out and ride but the bike is open and I really don't want to close it up without fixing the problem.
