This is on my 89 with 69k on it.
If you look at the end of the spline you can see a line on all of them. Also one one side of the tooth there seems to be some where marks. It's not on the other side. Is all this normal?
With the driveshaft inserted into the final drive and I rotate it, I can not feel any weird kind of play.
From what I've read, to get the 89 u-joint out I don't have to mess with the swing arm. I just want to inspect it. But if I need a new one they are bigger as is the boot. THEN I would need to take more apart. Is just inspecting a lot less work?
Also. Is this amount of grease slung around inside the drive normal. I'm guessing not and the seal is shot?
Thanks.
Is this driveshaft normal? And u-joint removal?

Looks a little worn, but you can see plenty worse around here.
The grease around the drive is probably not from a bad seal, just someone went with "the bigger the gob, the better the job" on the Moly paste. It is vital that all the drive splines on the hub and the drive shaft be cleaned and lubed with Honda Moly paste 77.

It's pretty worn. If you look at the small splined part at the end just past the clip indentation, that's what all the splines looked like originally. So you can see the difference between those and what's left of the main splines.

Re: Is this driveshaft normal? And u-joint removal?
Hey Cal, I also have an 89. I replaced the Ujoint with the bigger one and boot. I didn't need to remove the swingarm pivot bolt but had both shocks off and the swing arm proper all the way up. I posted a vid in the how to area,,,Quick Cal wrote: ↑Fri Aug 19, 2022 9:19 pm This is on my 89 with 69k on it.
