Starter valve set 16046-mam-000

Post by Wpope86 »

I need a starter valve set 16046-mam-000 for a 95’ GL1500SE but all the dealerships and vendors tell me the item is on back order with no eta. Is there an alternative part number that would work?

My local machine shop said they could shorten and cut the grove in one if I found a longer one but they don’t have the ability to machine a starter valve set from scratch.

I’ve done a complete carb rebuild and am now stuck due to the parts being on back order so any help would be much appreciated.

The original one has a crack in the shaft at the grove that is cut in it for the starter lever.

Ok. Maybe you can locate a used one at a salvage yard. If you don't want to wait, your machine shop should be able to repair it.
Cut off the bad part of the shaft.
Drill and tap the shaft for a small stud.
Do the same with a new brass rod.
Attach the two with a stud and locktite.
Machine the new groove.

One of many ways to effect a repair.

I called the guys at Western Honda in Scottsdale, Arizona and they were able order the part for me.

I thought all Honda dealerships ran the same system but it seems the guys at Western Honda for some reason or another are able to get parts when others can not 🤷‍♂️.

I just received the part from Western Honda in the mail. The starter valve set cost me $66 plus $9 shipping.
