No click at the Relay?
test at the Starter Relay to see if you're getting anything from the starter button

could be a fuse or relay that feeds power to the stitch

Is the gear selector in Neutral?

could be your Clutch Start interrupt switch at the lever, if it starts in neutral then that's your issue maybe
my connector broke at the switch, I thought it was the switch.

Make sure the kill switch is in the run position. If it is in any other position, it will not start.

Yeah, what MikeB said! Check that kill switch. That bit me one time while out on a trip. I had been in a restaurant for lunch and when I came out to start the bike, it would not do anything. Lights came on but no start. Not even a grunt. I found the kill switch was moved to the off position so it wouldn't start. I have no idea how it got that way because I never use it. Perhaps someone messed with it while I was inside. I'm not sure when Honda changed it from not even letting the starter turn over if the kill switch was operated but I think maybe late 97 models and all the 98-00 were like that. The earlier models would allow the starter to work but the bike would not start if the kill switch was operated.
