Intro and question re spreadsheet template...

Post by KiwiGriff »

G'day from New Zealand. I recently replaced our 2018 Indian Roadmaster with a (much) cheaper 1996 GL11500. 'Gilbert' is purple and is the Canadian model. He has 73, 000 km (not around the clock) on the odo, but with no service history apart from the very early entries in the Owners Manual.
Got myself a Clymer manual, already have a well set up garage with an assortment of tools, and can knock a nail in without stripping the thread, so I'm planning on doing most of my own maintenance.

I've replaced the timing belts, all filters and all fluids, brake lines and pads, and put new rubber on (Avon Cobra Chromes). Some of the bodywork is a bit 'meh' after PO's butchery, and may or may not be replaced with aftermarket stuff, but it has some nice extras (chrome parts and LED lighting) and we (Vicky and I) took it for its first spin today after getting it all back together. Love it - it's not the big thumping V-twin, feet forward beast I've been used to for the last 60,000ks but I'm loving the power delivery and smoothness of the Wing.

Still have a few things to do when some more parts arrive (LED headlight and driving light LEDs, reverse switch, air filter) but wanted to get it on the road!

Our background - I'm a Navy vet - 36 years in the mob and got out at the end of 2015. I'm now a full time part-time school bus driver. Vicky is ex Royal Engineers (UK Army), now working as an Accountant, and we both ride Royal Enfield Himalayans as well - lot of fun. We're both members of the Patriots Defence Force MC Club in NZ and ride independently as well as two-up. Hence the Wing and previously the Indian. I also have my original new bike (after RD250, CB550/4), a 1981 Suzuki GS1000G that I've just about finished restoring.

We have grown-up children and grandchildren but also one still at school. ;) Waiting for the youngest to leave home before we take off in our converted Horse Float bus which coincidentally is also going to be our motorcycle carrier. :D

I've picked up lots of tips and info from this site - it's much appreciated. Rather than reinvent the wheel, I was wondering whether anyone has a template of a maintenance spreadsheet for the GL (I have used the Advanced Search options but with no success). Appreciate if someone could share a copy.

Cheers,
Griff

Welcome Griff! Reads like your living a great life!
NZ has probably been at the top of my "must go there list" for a long time. The riding must be incredible with diversity of terrain in a relatively small area.
Sorry can't help with the spread sheet.
