First gear disengages

Post by QATO »

Hello

'93 GL1500 SE
Here is a problem. From time to time, not very often, when I start on first gear it disengages to neutral.
Where to start looking for a cause - Is it a gearbox problem or maybe a clutch issue?
Or maybe I don't know how to properly get into first gear. I'm not a very experienced rider.

Tried to look for a similar issue but haven't found any topic.

Q.

It happens every once in a while. Usually you can tell by the sound and feel when you didn't get a solid shift. Just go back to neutral and do it again. Because of the shift fork issues on this bike I don't like to stomp it into first, so I occasionally get the same issue. Like I said you can usually tell when it isn't right before you try to take off.

Thank you, you calmed me a bit.
So additional question, in this case, will installing additional pivot point helps with that anyhow?

It might. All depends on how loose your shift shaft is. For sure it will keep your shifter seal from going bad. Be sure to replace it when you install the brace.
