1500 won,t turn over
I started my 96 1500 today and let it warm up as i checked air pressure.Hit the kill switch to stop for a minute and now it won,t start. The lights come on and the side stand light works. the headlights dim when i hit starter switch but that is all. I put the charger on battery and it checks good. Any idea what to check next? Thanks Whitehead

Re: 1500 won,t turn over
Try working the kill switch back and forth a few times. These switches get dirty over time and make poor connections. If that helps or not, try spraying electronics cleaner in the switch to clean it.

Re: 1500 won,t turn over
When i first turn the switch on the reverse light shows for a second and the neutral light does not show. I think it maybe the switch for the trans. I looked at the manual and it shows the switch on the right side but I don,t know where. I am going to take the kill switch off first then look for the neutral switch. Thanks for the help.

If it is the neutral switch you still should be able to start with kickstand up and pull the clutch.

Before you start tearing things apart, try engaging and disengaging the reverse lever several times. Perhaps the switch(es) involved are dirty.

10.31.22. I just diagnosed last evening a 1998 GL 1500 SE, that a friend was riding and the bike just quit as he was getting on the expressway, then it fired back up as he was deaccelerating, he rode it for about a mile more then it quit.He tried to start it but it would not crank. The right side handle bar kill switch is not making. I came on this forum to see if anyone else had changed out that switch instead of the whole handle bar switch assembly.

Many folks have taken apart that switch and cleaned it, and tightened the connections.
