GL1500 flag mount on the CB antenna.

Post by GL1100Mike »

I recently purchased two Show Chrome flag pole mounts, p/n 52-713. The mount fit as the instructions said on the radio antenna. The CB antenna does not seem to come apart the same as the radio antenna.
I called the manufacturer, they could not help me . Maybe the cb antenna is not designed to come apart. Has anyone had this same issue. Is there an easy fix for this. I would like to display two flags. Tank you, Mike.

Both of my antenna bases on my '98 GL1500 are the same.
Here is a picture of the CB mounting. The AM/FM mounting is identical.

I remember in the past seeing an antenna mount that was somewhat different on an older GL1500. That base did not have the jam nut so that the antenna could be positioned. However, I believe that the antenna should still unscrew from its mount. If it is difficult to unscrew, it may have thread locker holding it in place and will take some heat to soften the thread locker.

Found that it not fit other side for me. Just 1 has been ok though.

Lift up the spring loaded sleeve, just like you were going to fold the antenna. Press or tap out the small roll pin that the antenna hinges on. Install the flag mount and reverse the process to replace the pin. It's a little hard to do because you have to hold against the spring to re-insert the pin. Tap it back centered in place and, there you are. What do they say. . . Voila!!

Those who say it cannot be done should try not to interrupt those who are doing it.
