Cornering/Driving lights

Post by TheGibbet »

Having trouble locating the plug where the cornering lights plug into. Have a 1988 GL1500. Bike didn't come with the lights from factory. I've checked under the cowl. On the frame tube. The only plug I've found is different from the connector on the lights. It's blue on left side and black on right. Both have 4 slots. Do I need to adapt a pin to fit into one of these slots? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Not sure on an '88 since they are a different animal from the '90-on up models, but I think you found the 4 pin connectors for the cornering light relays.

'93 Aspencade comes without cornering light but has the relay connectors without relays and the connectors for the light fixture built into the harness. All you have to do is add the lights and relays. On your '88 the 2 pin light fixture connectors are likely there somewhere since the 4 pin relay connectors are, probably hidden somewhere wrapped in tape or zip-tied somewhere. Follow the wiring from the relay connectors and it should split off somewhere nearby to the light fixture connector wiring.

Thanks for the info.. I've looked several times.. I'm in the process of rebuilding the carb.. Most of my plastics are off.. Only plastic left is the fairing.. I found a connection for the side lights.. Unless they are way up inside the fairing, I don't think they are there.

Those connectors (if yours has them) should be by the frame tubes just outboard of the radiators, one on each side and as noted they could be wrapped to the harness with black electrical tape, in which case, you will not see them. you will have to feel the harness for a small hard lump in the wrapping.
