I screwed up

Post by bbrackett »

I tried taking the cover off for the trunk latches cuz I was going to try and remove trunk lights to have easier access to fix broken wires

well got the plastic mostly off then couldn’t cuz of a broken nurled nut and some metal oxidation on the screw and nut

anyway um I took my gloves n hat out
closed the trunk

and aaarrrggghhh. cant open the trunk

do I have to break in ??

Search here, there are a few topics about what options you have. Depending on what you have apart and what is still working. Sometimes the key will work when the lever doesn't. There are instructions on how to bend a coat hanger to open from between the levers. All the way up to removing the seat and drilling small holes to get a long screwdriver in to remove the catch loops.

We actually have a "How To" article on the site that explains how to fix this: How to Open a Trunk with a Jammed Latch

Unfortunately I did the same thing about 6 months ago. I pulled off the back of my back seat, cut a hole large enough for my hand and a flashlight, and I took the nuts off of the inside, releasing the inner plastic and it popped open. I had cut a neat square, so I just went ahead and put the square back with black gorilla tape, that way I can get back in if I ever do this again.

I know that there are other ways to do this, but I tried for a couple of hours with no luck at all.
