headlight switch problem

After several months of winter sleep, I turned the headlight swith on and started the wing. The light came on for a short while and then suddenly went dead. And stayed dead. I have no idea what is wrong with it, but I believe that the problem is with the switch itself since the former owner told me never to switch it off. Which I foolishly did. So, what is the problem, and how should I fix it?
Any help appreciated.

Test the switch, repair or bypass as needed. Only Euro spec bikes even had a headlight switch.
