Front Brake issues

Post by No1uno »

I went for a short ride with the wife tonight, we got about 5 miles from home and the bike started to slow down on it's own, the RPM's were normal etc etc etc....
The front brake handle was damn firm almost like it had zero play, so I slowly pulled over to the side of the road. I started looking around to see what was causing this strange issue.
About 15 minutes went by and the front brake handle now was working normally? Nothing new on the bike, no work on the brake system, the back brake was working just fine, it was only the front brake lever and the front brake handle that would not work until it cooled down, we then drove home slowly just in case, but nothing else happened. The front brake lever is working fine, the brake fluid is at the proper level and I have not dug into it yet but will in the next few days. Any ideas guys?

Thanks
Robert

Sounds like the return hole in the master cylinder is clogged. Could be the front or rear master depending on which disc is dragging.

Right is the front. Open the reservoir and down in the bottom there should be a small metal deflector. (might be missing) remove it and under it will be a tiny hole. With a small wire (a single strand from a wire brush is one option) poke it in that hole and dislodge any gunk in there. If it looks real grungy you might want to remove the master and clean it all out with brake parts cleaner.

Can you also happen with the rear brake locking up the front wheel too?

Yes, the foot pedal operates both the rear brake and the left front brake.
