Newby....be gentle l9l...
I'm not entirely sure that this is the right place to put this, if it's not I apologize in advance, and mods please take it down or move it to where it needs to go I mean no harm.
First, I want to thank the Forum, and thank the fellow that runs this site. Already bought some relays from him.
I just bought, about 4 weeks ago, a 93 interstate, 97k miles and in pretty poor shape.
I brought it home and disassembled it, and it ended up rattle canned from Home Depot. I did pretty much everything on this thing that you can mechanically, flushed the clutch fluid and brake fluid and coolant and oil, new brakes on all three (rotors), a couple of oil changes, decent stereo system (although I don't know if it's going to still work worth a crap because I just don't know if it's loud enough even though it does have an amplifier in the back).
I rewired everything and put a Austone taxi tire on the back. A lot of what I've done was learned here, and also on the Delboys site. I'm pretty proud of the old bike, I got everything pretty much put back together today after 4 weeks of hard work, honestly.
Changed the color from Maroon to Yellow, I'm recovering the seats right now in some cheap adhesive vinyl that I found online. Leds, etc, alternator coupling, timing belts, plugs, filters...new wiring to all accessories.
All of the paint came from Home Depot, rust-oleum, it's what I could afford at the moment.
I redid the stereo, and I installed digital speedometer, voltmeter and an amp meter, outside temperature gauge. I'm pretty stoked about being able to ride it but right now my road is full of snow, I'm in North Idaho and if I take it down that road I would probably get about 30 ft Maybe LOL. I'm Chris nice to meet you guys!

Reads like your a pretty good wrench! Lotta work in a short time. That snow will be gone in no time and you'll be enjoying a great motorcycle.

Thank you sir, and you're right it was a lot of work and a short time! I have so many things that I've figured out along the way, it's an interesting bike and really well made.

Re: Newby....be gentle lol
after all that hard work don't forget to replace the timing belts. it's cheap insurance and is not all that hard, especially for someone familiar with the wrenches
you did a nice paint job, especially for rattle cans. sounds like your well on your way to putting a lot of miles on it

Re: Newby....be gentle lol
Thank you, and yes, I did the belts and about scared myself to death....I finished, started the bike and heard some clunking...the engine started easy, ran and held its own, cold and slow, but dink...dink.....dinkdink....
I came on the forums and started looking around and a few people talked about the alternator coupling. I ordered a new one, and I installed it and the sound was gone. I suspect that something was slightly different in the timing that I put on the bike myself, the belts are tighter now or whatever but it's minuscule but I think enough that it was making that coupler Make some noise when I hadn't heard it before. Scared the hell out of me though, all I could think was a bent valve up in there somewhere. Glad it wasn't the case.

Patience, young Skywalker!
The weather will be getting better very soon and you'll be riding in style.
Nice paint job, especially for rattle cans!
97 thousand miles is nothing on one of these. As long as the oil is changed regularly and normal maintenance is done, it should easily go another 97k.
Good luck with it!

I love the yellow color! Honda should have offered that originally!
I'd like to see a picture of the digital speedometer you added.

Re: Newby....be gentle l9l...
Heres the speedometer, its a cheapo one from ebay or temu etc,
Also, the seat I have had a cover over it, i removed it and found the original one hiding underneath had a few holes....so I am in the process of recovering it with a leather adhesive repair kit.....its cheap, not perfect, but in the end itll look decent.
it fit well in the dash between the tach and dial speedo. Its kind of egg shaped. Also, the seat I have had a cover over it, i removed it and found the original one hiding underneath had a few holes....so I am in the process of recovering it with a leather adhesive repair kit.....its cheap, not perfect, but in the end itll look decent.

It looks like you may have put some LED lighting in the instruments. That looks good. Nice job on the paint.

Re: Newby....be gentle l9l...
I did install blue LEDs in the panel, they came out pretty good and I like the color, thank you kindly.

I did that on mine originally, but discovered that it made the dash really hard to read at night - not to mention that ALL of the things on the dash that are red, become invisible at night. I switched the dash illumination lights from blue to white, and it fixed the problem.Flyboy CDA wrote: ↑Sat Apr 01, 2023 4:43 pm I did install blue LEDs in the panel, they came out pretty good and I like the color, thank you kindly.

That's good to know I haven't ridden the bike in the night, I'll take a look at that for sure, thank you!

Did you happen to use a particular type of rust-oleum? I have 1 panel that is shattered and after 2 years I found a replacement. If I can get my replacement painted the right color and it looks pretty good, I will be happy.
Thanks,
Mark

Very nice job. That color should have been an option on 1500's. They did it with the 1800.
