Just a wee quick question has anyone fitted a keyless engine remote start /immobiliser to a gl1500 if so which one did you use & how successful was the out come? Thank you gerry..

just my thoughts here but I can't see that working on the 1500 series, every 1500 including our current one requires some adjustment of the enricher to get it started and close watch to keep lowering it as it begins to warm up. Now the 1800 is a different story with it's fuel injection. The only other issue I would see is I always park in gear

Immobilizers seem to be a thing over there across the pond... 8-)

They are rarely used here in North America, and particularly on touring motorcycles.

I'm not sure if there's any substantial discount for having one installed here, either.

..................Hi guys thanks for your thoughts.. Why I am thinking of keyless ignition is getting used parts, yes plenty full in US & a few in europe when you work out the price including delivery +20% tax on top + a further 2%tax of total price it brings the price of a used part over £200, if the part is usable fine. if not its costing me more time & money sending it back. In the UK there's 1 but no key. Then living in northern Ireland because we have a total mess up called the Irish sea boarder there's less businesses send here because of all the paperwork & jumping through hoops not worth the hassle for majority of businesses they just say on their ad we do not send to NI. Not worried about starting bike from 2/3 meters away just to use when on the bike & adjust choke as you would normally, not overly concerned about theft as you can only do what you can do to prevent it, but if someone desperately wants a 1990 gl1500 nothing will stop them from taking it. Also didn't fancy stripping all the body work off & drilling out security bolts, time consuming. easier to get to electrical connecting block & work from there & keep the original key lock only for the steering lock. lazy way I can hear y'all say 😄, yes definitely & keep it simples.

The Eurospec version has some differences in wiring, so this may not apply. However, the key switch has a number of circuits and different things are switched in different positions. Acc, On, Park.

Hi rambozo, thank you for your reply yes your quite right what you say, am hoping someone somewhere out there has tried what am thinking off, it may mean linking a few wires acc, on, etc & possibly am thinking of running a separate live(+) through a fuselink & switch on the dash console to run the park lights when ignition is off. But will this in turn cause a further problem with back feed through the system. Picking brains here as 2 or more minds are better than 1..unless I fit separate front & rear parking lights instead of using the original park lighting??

Based on what you said, it sounds like the key lock works, but not the switch?
The switch portion is a replaceable part, and I don't think you have to remove the security bolts to swap it out.
Honda even still stocks it.

Again, this is a US number so double check for Euro.

Yes Rambozo key lock works although the part that keeps rain & dust out (rain which is plentiful over here. we get so much we would gladly give it away if you had your own buckets to carry it all😀) is missing & I think this is were the problem has raised from.I'll check out with dealers see if I can get switch part (thank you for part number) that may be another option & hopefully getaway without spending too much time on a big strip down.. I don't mind striping bike down over winter months but spring is just round the corner & I was looking a quick & easy fix so to say to get out & enjoy the journeys on the big girl.. If it was on my 99 GL 1500, I would just lube the dickens out of the key socket with HD silicone lube. Squirt in a bit, let it sit a while then do it again until I could see it run out the bottom. Silicone lube, once the carrier has evaporated off is not a good current conductor and should work much better than, say WD 40. Silicone will stay around for much longer and also provide a lot of lubricity, (cool word) for quite a while. I use it on car door locks and it works well to keep them from freezing up in our rather cool (minus below freezing) weather up here in the winter.

Thank you limpy45 I did try unfortunately to no avail. I think I'll just try a 3 position ignition switch & link
the cables together & keep the original switch just for steering lock... Thank you once for your impute..
