I have an oil leak on my 92 GL1500 Interstate. I have already changed the valve cover gaskets and now I believe that one of the camshaft or crankshaft seals must be leaking. My question is if there are any other oil leak possibilities in the front cover area. It seems to leak out of the front cover and gets on the toes of my shoes. I already have the timing belts, tensioners, the three front shaft seals, and the front cover gaskets. Do I need any special puller for the gears? I am used to auto timing and usually you can just pull them off by hand but, I don't want to get in there and find I need a special puller. So far she's been a good ride with 167,000 miles with only ignition coils replaced. All the guys I ride with are always after me to upgrade but I like what I have now. The 1500s have a much better appearance than the 1800s. Just my opinion. Thanks to all and ride safe.

Re: Crank and camshaft sprocket removal
If you take the bolts off the cam belt pulleys they should just fall off the cams. Not sure about the crank pulleys, but suspect once the bolt is out they are not a friction fit either and will just slide off the crank.
Another thing to check is the water pump weep hole, the pump has to seal against both coolant and crankcase. A leaky seal on the crankcase side can cause oil to come out the pump's weep hole instead of coolant.

Another thing in that area is to check that there aren't two oil filter gaskets. Sometimes an old one will stick on the case and go unnoticed. Always good for a leak like that.

Been there, done that! Did an oil change on Deb's Pontiac many yrs ago, started the engine and had pumped a half gallon of oil onto the driveway before I could get it shut off!

Re: Crank and camshaft sprocket removal
Thanks for the replies. It is definitely not the oil filter. I have always been careful on the filter seals as I always stick the filters together to match up size and get a little of the oil on the new seal for installation. I had a Patriot Guard Mission today so didn't have time to try to see the water pump and another mission tomorrow so, it will be Monday before I can check further.
