Back brakes don't light up lights

Post by Robert Griffith »

I have a 1997 gl 1500 se when I hit the rear brakes the lights do not come on. Front brakes work the lights as they should only the back brakes will not turn on the lights. I have already determined the switch is ok any thoughts on the problem?

Welcome to the forum.

You can unplug the harness from the brake pedal switch and jumper across to completely rule out the switch. Otherwise, it's probably going hand over hand looking for a broken wire. Sorry.

Did you check for power at the switch? (grn/wht) Check for corrosion at the red C32 connector.

Is the cruise stop and the brake light switch one in the same? If so is this the switch?
Should the switch have 12v?

That picture is the cruise cancel switch:

The brake switch is the one up above, connected via a spring:

There should be +12V on the white/green wire going into the brake switch. When this wire is connected to the green/yellow wire coming out of the switch, the lights should illuminate.
