Has anyone replaced the rear shocks on a gl1500 with a set of progressive shocks? How are they for the ride ?

I did, I put a set of Progressive 416's on (which are no longer made). They are a bit more stiff, but gave the bike much better handling.

I put Progressive 412's on mine. Not air adjustable like the original shocks or the 416's, but fine for me. Great for 2-up riding.
