GL1500 SE paint code doesn't match colour

Post by nowcom »

Hi guys,
My 98 SE has a paint code R176K and colour R176C.
I bought the spray can labelled Spectra Red and R176C.
However once the part was painted, it turned out a much brighter shade of red.
The 98 colour code chart confirms the Spectra Red, but the actual paint colour comparison chart shows a Wineberry Red instead.
Any ideas?
Thanks, Steve

What kind of paint did you buy?

I don't know how accurate this chart is

http://www.goldwingworld.com/pages/kleuren.htm

But looking at that it doesnt look like wineberry came on 1998 bikes.

Is it possible somebody painted your bike at some point?
You can search paint numbers on ebay and find parts with the different colors for comparison.
Wineberry is r114cu

Thanks for the reply.
It sure looks like an after market paint job to me too.
I got the locsl hardware store to colour match the picture of the original part.
So far so good as it dries.
Then a clearcoat will have to be applied.
Thanks again,
Steve
