Does this happen even if standing still? How about in third gear?
Only thing I can think of is damage to the wiring that is used for the gear position switch.

Re: MOTOR KILLS WHEN SHIFTING TO 2ND GEAR
ramboso, this hard to explain- while on hoist, killed when shifting to 1first. first checked shifter, a little play and put back together, took it off hoist for further tear down it then started in first gear, worked but not second. i never heard of this before so thought that my neutral dash light came on about a month ago and stays while running but very dim that maybe the dimmer sensser could be a place to look. book is not very spacific on its location ? i cain't find it.. meanwhile will check out your suggestion. are there any videos out there that you know of ? i appreciate the response back. if it turns out internal i believe i will look for newer goldwing.
thanks again sir.

No sir. On your question, my first goldwing was a 1975. Delt with a lot of issues but this is a new one on me.

My 1991 Interstate has 250K miles and the side stand was really sloppy.
Had an issue where bumps would momentary cut out the engine. Took over a year to figure that one out
.
Actually how I found it was by accident, moved it while riding checking that it was all the way up. Carb-Cleanered it, oiled it & issue went
POOF, ANOTHER BUG DONE GONE.
Hope you find that problem.
As for in-gear cutout.
I used Lucas oil stabilizer & found it gums up the Neutral Switch. At times took forever to get neutral. Put Seafoam in the oil just before changing it, 3 changes later it's almost normal. I'm now using Hy-Per Lube & 3+ years later no issue.
I'm wondering if you neutral switch is acting up?

Thank you, will double check that kick stand. And oil treatment, never used that but worth a try. Right now checking the diodes and going to back track the wires for shifter position sencer also. Ya'll have a great day.

The computer is 18 years old so they can have it! But I'd rather send them a moab.
