How's it hangin? Your muffler that is.

Post by Quick Cal »

I think my mufflers may ot may not be installed wrong. In the parts diagram it shows the bolt going through the tab on the muffler first, then all the rubber bushing's and frame to the inside of the muffler.

But my current 96 and my previous 89 both have the muffler on the inside if the frame/bushing set up with just the nut holding it on the tab. I also found a video showing the same way on his. So is your muffler on the inside or outside of the frame tube? Thanks.

Funny thing, even Honda's not too sure. In my 92 OEM service manual on page 7-28 the parts breakdown shows the muffler tab on the outboard side of the bushing and swing arm. But, on page 7-33 there's a picture of the muffler tab bolted to the inboard side of the bushing and swing arm. Mine has been on the outboard side ever since I bought it about eight years ago and I've had no problem with it. Maybe next time I change the rear tire I'll put it on the inside.

I have a trailer hitch and if the muffler's hanger tab is on the outside, the muffler hits the hitch and will not bolt up.
If you don't have a hitch seems it doesn't matter which side you bolt up.

When I do one thing, I'll side-step a little & learn few more things.
