not firing cyl 1-3-5

Post by Thombar »

Just bought 1993 w/ 15k miles. Sat under shed 28 yrs. 2nd owner said ran great 3-400 miles w/ external fuel pump after flushed old gas. Said all of sudden lost most of power and guessed it ws carbs. I bought in March to find all original plugs, oil, air filter (full of dog food and debris). I did all maintainence to include master cylinder before and fuel pump w/ Sea Foam. Starts easy, first ride barely able to get up to 50mph. Did compression test, all 75 lbs but cylinders 1-3-5 have not fired the new plugs. Cyl 2-4-6 normal white. One thing I noticed on ride, when I hit bump in road felt power increase for split second one time. Like impact moved debris in carb for an instant but could not replicate. Now seeing right side never fired thinking ignition module or mouse eaten coil 12v? Not much of as mechanic but can follow instructions. Thanks, Tom

Gotta be carb problem. One carb feeds 1-3-5, the other 2-4-6

Three coils, Coil 1 fires cyl 1-2, coil 2 fires 3-4 coil 3 fires 5-6, so can't be an ignition problem.

Ok, Thanks. Its running now with sea foam 1500 rpms. Idle is fluxuating 1300 - 1800 using the cruise clamp on grip. Just odd can smell gas on plugs, wet. Both exhausts feel same. If plugs 1-3-5 arent white means no gas there and sea foam probably wont help cause its not getting to blockage in bad carb?
