No neutral light, no reverse light, no OD light, no cruise light
Hello, I have recently purchased a 2000 gl 1500 with approximately 125000 miles. I have replaced timing belts and gear shifter oil seal with the help of the Goldwing Docs tutorials. Mechanical problems i can handle, electrical problems are another story. As stated in subject heading I believe i have an electrical problem. yes the bike starts with the clutch pulled in...runs great actually. I have replaced the reverse switch on the left side of the bike and the neutral switch above the dip stick. I have run seafoam through the engine and the oil came out as clean as when i put it in.....i suspect the previous owner did the same. I am not sure if they ( the lights) are all related but looking for a place to start.
Thanks in advance for any help.

You never mentioned if you checked the bulbs
I know you prob did but thought this would bump your post back up to the top

Not much to go on as you haven't mentioned any testing. The common faults such as relays and fuses are a good starting point. Do you have the factory service manual? If you look over the wiring diagram, you can see what these items have in common and look there, and be able to rule out things that would keep the engine from running. Or just start at the battery and trace your way to the light bulb. Somewhere along that path will be the fault.

Lol yes i did check the bulbs.
Yes i have a workshop manual......but not the best at reading (following) wiring diagrams.
I have bought two new relays from the goldwing doc site, checked all the old ones in the relay box, they tested fine, then swapped out Number 5 ( the one that i read in a older post that they said could be the problem.
I checked each fuse in the fuse box ( the one by the relay box) all good. i put in a new one in number 8 .... i believe i read somewhere that could cause a no neutral light.
I am thinking it is the gear selector switch.....which i will do ....but not now in prime riding season, i'll wait for winter.
I was hoping there would be a definitive test to tell me if it is the gear selector switch.
thanks

How about testing the gear position switch, before just replacing it. The procedure is in the service manual.
Which cruise light are you talking about, the on/off light or the set light?
Does reverse work or not?
Did this happen all at once or did you buy the bike like this?
Does the lamp test at key on work?
Does the LCD work?

Re: No neutral light, no reverse light, no OD light, no cruise light
Good morning Rambozo
I would like to test to see if it is the gear position switch, I didn't see how in the manual......I will look again.
The cruise light i am talking about is the on off......when i depress the cruise button nothing happens.....in fourth or fifth gear....at or around 80 kph.
The reverse has not worked since i purchased the bike. When i first turn the key the R lights up for a few seconds.
And finally the Lcd screen works fine.
thanks for replying.

Re: No neutral light, no reverse light, no OD light, no cruise light
I had the same problem. No reverse, lost all dash lights, lost gauges. Tested all fuses. they were good. tested the relays by turning on the key, made sure that the headlights would go from high to dim. That relay is for sure good. It is the lower right hand relay. I used its spot to test each relay. Remove one relay and put it in that spot. turn on ignition to the run and see if the headlights would change. If they didnt, the relay was faulty. Turned out to be therelay for my taillights. Headlights would go out when I changed from high to low. Replaced the relay fromwhereit had been and no tailights and no gauges etc. Put in headlight relay and tested. Everything worked as it should. I put the faulty relay back into the headlight spot and will be running on whatever the headlights were on until I can get a new relay. Hope this helps you.

Re: No neutral light, no reverse light, no OD light, no cruise light
Also regarding the cruise not working. I have that issue from time to time. What it is is either the clutch lever or front brake lever not going all the way back and releasing the switch. The bike still thinks the clutch is pulled in or brake is still pulled. I give a push with my fingers to push the levers back and then the cruise will work again. dirty switch, needs to be reset??? not sure which but I will have to check them both out and clean, reset them.

Re: No neutral light, no reverse light, no OD light, no cruise light
Are you saying the cruise control light does not come on when cruise button is depressed? If you have a trailer hitch with wiring connected through existing wiring under trunk it will ruin top right relay in fuse box. Could be why cruise control light does not come on. If you have chrome aftermarket levers, that could cause cruise control not to work. Worn brass bushing on clutch lever could also prevent cruise control from working. New ones are available through a Honda dealer for less than $5.00 last time I bought one.

Re: No neutral light, no reverse light, no OD light, no cruise light
Yes the cruise light will not come on when the button is depressed (in fifth gear at the proper speed). It lights up when first turning on the ignition.
I have original leavers, but the bike had a trailer hitch when i bought it, i have since removed it.
The wires for the trailer hitch where already removed.........maybe i should trace it back and see what's what.
I will check the top right relay in the fuse box.
Are all the relays on a 2000 gl 1500 the same?
There was one relay (in the relay box beside the fuse box) that didn't fit the same as the others i think it was #7, i had to modify the relay that i purchased from goldwing docs to get it to fit.
I still think my cruise (and reverse) aren't working because of the neutral light. If i don't have a neutral light, from what i have read the bike will not know what gear it is in and not engage the cruise control or reverse.
Thanks for the imput.
