Valve train ticking

Post by ceedubs »

I can hear a ticking sound from the left side of engine. Not sure if it is a big deal.

If it's a time bomb, it could be a big deal.
Hydraulic lash adjusters on the 1500.
Maybe put in a quart of ATF at your next oil change. That can help clean things out.

I put Sea Foam in before the last oil change. Bike runs good, mpg is between 36 and 40.
Hopefully it's not a dirty time bomb lol Thanks.

I just starting to get a tapping on the left side of the valve cover. Does anyone know if it is ok to ride for a while until I can take it apart. I certainly don't want to do any damage. I've seen how to clean out the hydraulic lifters. It's an easy process but requires a bit of time to remove all the parts to get to the valve cover.

Common on a GL1500 for fuel pump to make a ticking sound mimicking valve train noise. Try searching for fuel pump ticking.

The tapping is definitely coming from the intake valve (assumedly the upper valve) on the left side. At its normal idle, the engine has an occasional miss suddenly. I brought up the idle just to avoiding a stalling condition. I did go for a ride this past weekend in honor of a close friend who passed a week ago. Is there a mechanic on this thread? I need to discuss a few issues with you.
