99 Alternator Heat

Post by MrWheelie »

My alternator had to be rebuilt, charges good but it gets hot within a few minutes on a cold start, I believe the regulator was replaced when I had it rebuilt. Maybe it supposed to be hot, I don't know.

Maybe someone could do a cold start on their GL1500 and see if your alternator gets hot in a few minutes.

Sorry, would have done this sooner but it has been rainy here for the past 10 days.

I started my bike and the alternator was hot to touch within 3 min. I could hold my hand on it, but not for long.
It is not a hot day either, about 65° F.
And as the elders of our time choose to remain blind
Let us rejoice and let us sing and dance and ring in the new
Hail Atlantis!

That's very helpful, I didn't want to purchase a new alternator only to find out this is normal. Thank you sir.
