Rubber Grommet?

Post by GBKid »

I have a 2000 GL1500SE I was replacing the alternator on. I removed all of the side covers and radio shelter along with the fairing pockets and seat. I found this lying on the floor and I am not sure what it’s from. Anybody know?

Never mind. Figured it out! It’s a rubber cover for a terminal on the back of my new Rick’s Motorsport alternator. By the way, DO NOT ever by a Compufire Alternator! They are junk. The one I installed on June 13, 2021 is already toast with only 8,499 miles in it. Grrrrrr…

I've had TWO alternators that were junk.
I don't care who you buy it from, it probably comes from the same place in China.
I'd bet that the Rick's comes from the same place.
George in Jersey.

Actually, Rick’s Motorsport builds them. A master motorcycle mechanic friend of mine recommended Ricks and told me not to buy from anyone else. Also, Cyclemax recommended Ricks and the rep there told me they don’t carry anything else for GL1500’s. Furthermore, he told me they dropped the Compufire line altogether because of the large number of failures being reported to them by customers like me. I bought the Compufire from Cyclemax. Check out Rick’s Motorsport Electrics website.
