CB Radio Interchange

Post by Charlie1Horse »

Does anyone know if a CB radio from a 97 GL1500 would fit in a 92 GL1500 Interstate? I have been looking at them on ebay and although they all look the same, I am being told, on the listing that they won't fit my 92. I don't see any difference but the numbers on the labels are all different. My CB is defective and I need to either replace it or send it to Sierra for repair. I've had mine out before and they all look the same so, I don't see what the difference could be. I can't seem to find CB radios on Partzilla or Cyclemax, or any other websites to compare them. Thanks for your response.

Since the CB connects into the stereo system, I'd be very careful here.
I believe that the earlier bikes used a different stereo unit than the later ones.
The wiring might not be the same. Someone else on here might be able to
clarify this.
If'n it was me, I'd send my original to sierra. At least that way you'd know
that you had a good unit that was working right....and a warranty!

It has been my experience that all the CB Radios receiver/transmitters for the GL1500 is the same for all years and are all interchangeable.

Is your radio a Panasonic or a Kenwood?

My radio is a Panasonic, 4 knob, no cassette, with Aux.
My CB radio is a Clarion.
I Sent my Panasonic to Sierra several years ago and cost me $125.00 to replace a single resistor, and it worked well for a while but now, it works sometimes and sometimes not. I guess I'll have to send it off again. The standard charge now is $140.00. I can still use my CB radio even with the radio not working but I can only hear and can not talk. At least I can hear what our ride captain is communicating during our ride but, I can not bring up the rear as I can not communicate with the leader. If I remove the radio to send to Seirra Electronics for repair I can not even listen. If I replace the CB radio, I will be able to communicate again. That is why my original question about interchange.
Thanks, Russell
