Carb overflow t fitting

Post by SANTIAGOMIGUELA90 »

What is the purpose of having an open face on the T fitting for the carb overflows? I have SCOURED the internet looking for evidence of it coming from the factory that way because I wasn’t sure if I broke it. After finding eBay listings of used carbs I finally got a good look, and they have the same fitting. Surely this must be by design, but i I can’t imagine how gas dumping all over your engine while it’s running is safe

That isn't the overflow, it is a vent line. The overflows are routed down behind the engine to the ground or the carbon canister if equipped.

there were 2 overflows. one for bowl drain and another for overfill, like when your floats get stuck.. this one was connected to the overfill.

The bowl drain also has an internal tube that acts as the overflow drain. In order for this to work properly there needs to be a vent opening and that's what that tee is for.

The bowl drain is at the bottom of the bowl and the overflow is at the top of the float chamber. How could they be connected? Unless I’m not understanding you correctly. And I mean no disrespect, I’m genuinely trying to understand this design. I appreciate your responses. This is on an 89 , if that matters..

This isn't from a goldwing, but I believe this is what Rambo is talking about.

I have never had the carbs off of a goldwing,, but my CX' s and Gl650 have a bowl similar to the picture below.
If the float sticks, the gas fills the bowl and drains out through the brass tube you see in the picture.
When you open the bowl drain screw it allows the gas to drain from the bottom of the bowl into the same tube.
The vent would be above the top of the overflow tube. He only way gas could come out of the vent would be if the overflow tube was plugged
