Rebuilding Clutch Hydraulic reservoir 2000 GL 1500

Post by DannyB »

Hello folks...just finished replacing the clutch slave parts, and refilled the clutch reservoir, bled the line properly, and still no buildup of pressure in the clutch handle. Thinking it's the clutch master cylinder. Bought the kit of replacement parts, but looking for step by step guidance on how to replace the kit parts. Kind of a rookie at this. Thanks a bunch in advance.

There isn't a specific one for this because all the hand-lever master cylinders are pretty much identical on all the different Goldwings. Have a look at Rebuilding your front master brake cylinder and you'll see it is pretty much identical to your clutch master cylinder.

Thank you for the reply Scott. I was able to install the kit for the rebuild. All parts in place. So, I replaced the Clutch Slave parts as well, but still no pressure in the clutch handle itself. Not sure what my problem is, so taking to the local Honda shop on Aug.11th, for them to look at. Hopefully, we can get to the bottom of this. I appreciated your response. Wonderful job you're doing!!

Did you bench bleed the master?

Not 'bench' bleed, but bled it after I replaced the clutch slave...and again after we replace the kit inside the master cylinder...but...while it was on the bike..

If it bleeds normally, it is not likely that there is a problem with the master. Any chance you left out the clutch pushrod?

No sir..that's in there for sure. They are telling me that it's possibly in the clutch itself. I've gone as far as I can as a do-it-yourselfer, so it's in the shop in about 10 days...fingers crossed. .. Thanks for your reply.

Hope it works out. Recently had this happen to mine also. Fixed by putting into gear and bike stalled. Pull in clutch lever, started bike again and clutch was working again. :)
