Lower cowl that goes around the bottom of the saddle bag

Post by KAW1185 »

I have a crack in the bottom cowl/facia (for lack of a better term) that goes right below the both saddle bags and the lower portion of the bike.

Guessing that’s abs plastic as well and the same repair procedure applies to it as other plastic pieces?

Will try to post a picture once I figure it out.

Yup, I would bond and reinforce it from behind with new ABS panels. You'll get it looking close to new.

That piece looks a little different than the factory parts. Some kind of one piece lower? Probably ABS, but look inside for the plastic marking symbols to verify.

Yes, that is a Hondaline accessory. There is another that wraps around the lower of the trunk. Color matched to bike. Not shown on the Honda exploded parts diagrams as not base equipment. Hard to find.

Note the two chrome screw covers going into the rear fender are not original. There should be bosses made on the back side of the trim piece with bolts coming back from the fender. These bosses though are often the first thing that fails when the back gets a bump.

Thank you everyone for the advice.

I will check it out in the next week or two and make a plan to repair it.

Ride safe.

That's a huge piece hanging out to be easily bumped.
I'd add extra layer or 2 of reinforcement all the way around the inside.

That accessory does add a finishing touch.
