1996 GL1500-SE. After many years of sun and fun, the windshield vent broke.
Looking at it, it appears I may have to remove the windshield to replace the vent.
Am I correct, or can the vent be removed and replaced with the windshield installed?

Adjust the windscreen all the way up and you should have enough room to get it out.
