1989 GL1500 Brake pedal not smooth after brakepad replacement

Post by arun9sams »

Dear riders,

I have a problem! Recently I replaced my brake pads both front and rear on my 1989 GL1500. Since then when I step on the brake pedal it feels like it is getting stuck on something but the brake works fine. Any idea what this would be?

Also I am looking to replace the rear brake light switch (part no. 35350-MN5-003) since the current one is shorted. Any idea where I can buy one? On all Honda part sites it shows unavailable!.

Thanks a ton !

Stuck on something... as in using in the brake levers and there's a momentary detente?
If that's it (had it happen few times) break-bleed is due.

IF that's not the issue then a caliper piston is sticking, it might work itself out (fingers crossed).

.
When I do one thing, I'll side-step a little & learn few more things.

You pushed dirty fluid back in the system when you installed the new pads. Flush the brake fluid and properly bleed the system. The GL1500 can be a bear to get air free.

Lube the bushing on the brake lever just because.

Pedal brake switch has been discontinued for a while. The later model switch or one from another bike will need to be modified to work but I don't remember how. Sorry. Might be one of the How-To articles.
