My rear brake pedal just flops, no pressure.
I tried bleeding it, and the fluid moves all the way to the caliper freely, but even after that the pedal has no pressure and it looks like the caliper may not be depressing the pads.
I am guessing that I need to pull the caliper and take it apart and clean it? Or are there any suggestions?
Thank you

Re: Rear bake caliper problems
Unless it's leaking externally, it can't be the caliper. You would build pedal pressure even if the caliper was seized or missing with the line capped off. If there are no external leaks, the only place the fluid can bypass is in the master cylinder.

Re: Rear bake caliper problems
The rear brake pedal is linked to the rear brake caliper and to one of the front brake calipers. I believe you have to bleed the front caliper first and then the rear caliper. The front caliper linked to the rear is the one on the left. That said, it may be a master cylinder as mentioned.

Thanks - I will pull the master cylinder.

Yes - I just quoted myself.
Little did I know what I was getting in to.
I sure would love to meet the engineer who designed the placement of the rear master cylinder. I'd buy him a beer, then throw it on him.

OK - Master cylinder cleaned and re-assembled and appears to be working well, but how to get the fluid flowing again? I pump and pump the pedal and still no flow. For now I locked the pedal down and left the bleeder cracked overnight to see if it burps out some air.
Any tricks?

Always a good idea to bench bleed a master before installing it. Pressure or vacuum bleeding will almost always do the trick when it's air locked.

Since air has been induced, be sure to follow the bleed sequence in the Service Manual. You may have to do it several times.GD2 wrote: ↑Fri Aug 18, 2023 10:44 pm OK - Master cylinder cleaned and re-assembled and appears to be working well, but how to get the fluid flowing again?
