rear car tire

Post by davebo63 »

I was thinking about trying a car tire on the rear of my 1997 goldwing 1500. what tires are you guys using that are easy to find ? can i buy this tire at any tire shop ? is the maxxis easy to find and what size ? 175r16? i seen videos where they said the tire is cheaper than a mc tire and last longer

The Maxxis is available from Universal Tire in Pennsylvania.
I've been using the Austone Taxi Tire, which is no longer available.
The Maxxis seems to be the same tire with a different name on it.

For the record, my Austone rear tire currently has 25,000 miles on it
and is nowhere near worn out.

I don't know. It's been a couple of years since I ordered from them. Call them and ask. They were nice to me on the phone as I remember.

The Maxxis is not that much cheaper than a standard high end motorcycle tire, but you will get 2-3 x the mileage out of it, so that is where savings comes into play.

I had 10,000 miles on my Maxxis when I got rid of my 1500 and had minimal tread wear.
My Dunlop E4 was done at 11,000 miles.

I just put a Pirelli CintuRato P7 Season Touring Radial Tire - 195/55R16 87V Run flat on mine. First time car tire try. Fits good and rides very close to normal feeling.

did the tire rub ? did you have to use a heat gun to heat up fender like i seen on other post with other brand of tires ? this tire was a lot easier to find than the others. i have a 1997 1500 goldwing. what size goldwing did you put your tire on ?thanks for the info
