Another what is it question

Post by Riley1841 »

Decided to flush and bleed front brake. After opening master cylinder I found this floating in fluid.

. It is the flat white item screwdriver pointing at. It was under the black piece.

Per Honda Service Manual
What it's purpose, manual does not state
I have always made sure it was clean, not torn, and put it back

It's called a float. I believe it's purpose is to prevent the brake fluid from being agitated when on rough road surfaces to prevent air bubbles from being forced into the brake system.

Those who say it cannot be done should try not to interrupt those who are doing it.

Always thought it was there to help see the level through the sight window. Regardless, supposed to be there.

Russell is correct. It's to prevent aeration of the brake fluid.
