Solenoid a 30 amp fuse, melting

Hi everyone, I need some help I have a 2000 Goldwing and never had this problem before I was riding and the bike shut down, brought it home to check it out and found that the solenoid A and fuse melted together so I installed new solenoid and fuse 30 amp and new wires and plug ,, everything going great for about 3 hours and again the shut off smoke was coming out of the 30 amp fuse and arcing
Did anyone have this problem before or could you point me in the right direction…

I'm shocked that no one has any theories on this. I'm not electrical so can only suggest that I've read about things like this that turned out to be related to aftermarket parts. Or connections to aftermarket lights or trailer hitches and such.

You might run it by the folks at GoldWingfacts and see if someone there has an idea.

It could be overcurrent - but most often, the cause of melted electrical connections is poor conductivity - oxidation, oil, dirt, grit, something causing an imperfect connection between the two pieces of metal. It could be between the wire and connector (crimp) or between two connectors. Imperfect connection means resistance. Current + resistance = heat. Current + heat = oxidation, which is more resistance. More resistance + current = more heat. Until it gets hot enough to melt something (or catch fire).

For a new fuse/relay and wires to get that hot in three or so hours is unreal. An excessive load should blow the fuse, since it didn't the draw must be right at the limit of the fuse and that shouldn't happen since all of the fuses under that 30 amp are only 10 or less amp so it would be hard to believe. You might check the fuses in the fuse box to make sure none of them are getting hot as well but so far it would seem that you either have a rather poor connection there at the fuse/relay or a partially shorted wire going to the fuse box. I see that all of the juice except that for the "keep alive" current goes through the ignition switch you might feel around the switch and wiring to see if there is any excess heat there. It will be interesting to see what you find so please let us know.


Try to learn from the mistakes of others..... you won't live long enough to make them all yourself!
