Stereo Volume Issue

Post by Jmicester24 »

Hello Folks!

Yesterday my stereo was fine on my 1999 GL1500. Today I hop on the bike, turn on the stereo and sound comes out for a second then nothing. When I turn the volume know, left or right, I get no sound. I only get a second of sound when I turn the stereo off then turn it back on. I recorded a quick video to further explain.
Could it be dust getting in the way of the contacts?( I like in Az) Any input is Welcome.

This forum doesn't like YT shorts. Better to just paste in the ID only.

Do you have a CB? I think the CB and intercom can mute the radio so maybe one of those controls is causing it.
I can't see if mute is shown on the LCD. I know the mute button is often a problem with sticking, but not sure if that causes what you have.
I don't really use the radio, so maybe someone that does will recognize this issue.

I do not have a CB. Yes the Mute is "on", but the Mute has always been on since I owned the bike and the stereo would work as normal.

Mute always on isn't good situation. Possibly spray a little crc contact cleaner and work switch. They are able to get dirty just normal use and contacts need the cleaned.

The Mute has always been on and it was never affected the sound. I will try the contact cleaner. Should I spray the contact cleaner in the volume knob as well?

Difficult to say about volume knob its a good design and haven't had any issues other than my AVC didn't used to work but not somehow it does. Try turning your AVC knob and see what happens.

You can also call Serria Electronics. They are the experts in GoldWing radios and have seen it all.
