Hello Fellow Wing Owners!
Ok.. in this forum.. there were a few articles on replacing the rear shock boot (not available separately from Honda) for my OEM air shock, and a few said that several got a Monroe SA1997 to replace the OEM boot.
Well, I bought one and there is no way this even is big enough to get around the bottom half of the shock itself, let alone the close to 3" diameter of the top of the OEM Air Shock.
Question is (I looked for a DIY article, not finding one) did they ship me the wrong boot, or am I not getting what I should do? I know it said in the articles "with modification".. but this is seeming extreme to get a fit here. What am I missing? The diameter of the boot is barely 2" at the top and 1.75" at the bottom.
What am I missing here?

It's been a while, so I don't know if you got the right rubber boot or not.
But I can definitely tell you that put a Monroe shock boot on mine several years ago.
Hopefully someone else here can put you on the right track.

The Honda part number and price for the OEM boot from Partzilla is 52611-MN5-003 for $54.95. But it may depend on your zip code.
If you search for that part number, you will see it on Ebay and Amazon but all the prices are about the same.

I got my boot from NAPA (same SA1997 part number, but a NAPA brand).
If I remember right, I had to cut off one end of the boot (the part that mounted to the shock body) to make it fit. I believe the smaller end fits the far end of the shock just fine, and the cut, bellows end of the boot fit just fine held in place with a zip tie.

My experience was the same as blupupher describes. You have to cut the Monroe boot to fit and zip tie.

Even though the OEM boot is pricey, I prefer the OEM boot. The fit and finish is so much better than holding things together with zip ties.

I bought the Monroe Shock-Mate SA1997 off Amazon (probably the same everyone has been talking about) and it took a bit of stretching and trimming the excess to get it on, but it did work and looks fine to me.
And since nobody will ever see it, I didn't care about the zip ties.

Well, I'm guessing that the SA1997 I got.. wasn't. It simply inside.. will, if stretched, hug tight the extension / lower shock portion.. to where it can't move. There is simply, unless I cut lengthwise the top, go around the upper sleeve.. with I would guess, a 1/2" opening. This basically puts me back where I was with the torn sleeve. Which does me no good and negates the reason for having the boot. I ended up getting some coiled 3" hose.. and used 3M Weatherstrip adhesive to glue the old boot top and bottom to the coiled sleeve. After a bit of clean up; it looks like it was meant to be there and is sealed and protects the shock quite nicely. I'm pretty happy with it.
I do thank everybody for the responses.. makes me pretty certain that I was given the wrong boot in the box. Part number on the outside says SA1997, but clearly looking at the responses here.. that's not what I got.
