I need some help to solve this mystery. My wife was going through some old stuff and presented me with a handwritten note on a piece of scratch paper; the asked if this was something I need?
On the paper was written...
'89 GL1500
8H0D40
(I'm not sure if the third and sixth characters are zeroes or the letter "O".
Does anyone know what this alphanumeric sequence means or indicates? Paint code? Part No?
Do I need this?
Thanks! ZT

I don't know but, it looks like part of a VIN number.

Those who say it cannot be done should try not to interrupt those who are doing it.

Thanks for your reply, Charlie; but it's definitely not part of my VIN number. which is clearly visible on the frame through the upper opening where the handlebars swing in the bodywork.Charlie1Horse wrote: ↑Sun Sep 17, 2023 4:46 pm I don't know but, it looks like part of a VIN number.

I've got to think it must be something else or I wouldn't have written it down and tucked it away.
Hopefully the six-digit code or its format will ring a bell with someone around here!

Looks like a possible key code. If so, it will be stamped on every lock cylinder. The fuel door or faring compartment are easy ones to see. The last three are what you need to cut a key from code.

DING! DING! DING! We have a winner!
Thanks, Rambozo! It is indeed my key code.
So I guess I can throw away this old note.
