idle issue

Post by waywing »

I just resurrected a 1999 SE from sitting a long time in a barn. Cleaned out the furl system and had the carb professionally cleaned. Ran beautifully for about 75 miles, then all of a sudden ran like crap. Now it will only run above 2500 rpm. It will not idle at all. Ant suggestions? Vacuum leak?

My best guess would be debris clogging the idle jets.

My next move is to reclean the carb. BTW I could not own and ride a Goldwing without Goldwing Docs and your help. Thanks!

Any chance the ignition system is running afoul? I suppose the carb could be dirty again, but 75 miles is only 2 1/2 gallons of fuel. Maybe your gas tank is garbage inside but I'd consider ignition as well. Check your plugs to see if they are uniform in appearance. Also, check spark to each wire. My $0.02.

If you do clean your cabs again (and it sounds like you will need to) be sure and get the old fuel out of the tank and install a new fuel filter.

That's not just a motorcycle. It's a Gold Wing.
