Switched power source for accessory

Post by GD2 »

Is there a switched power source available somewhere on the bike that I can use for an accessory?

Yes. There is a 10 amp accessory terminal above the fuse box.

If you decide to add a bunch of accessories try this:

https://www.healtech-electronics.com/products/tb/

It comes in 2 versions: With 4 or 8 connections.

Works very well, as does the "acc. terminal" that comes on the bike.

EC makes a switched, fused power plate that provides a number of independently fused power feeds for various accessories:

I did a review of the original version: viewtopic.php?t=10890

I would suggest replacing the garbage relay they supply with a decent quality one.

I thought it was a 5 amp?
Don't really remember though. Maybe mine just had a 5 amp fuse from the previous owner?

Well when he answers (correctly) first, no need for replies sometimes.
Also depends on time of day question is asked, those later in the day tend to get more looks than others earlier in the day.

The PO had added a charging port up front and had a "always on" power cord that you had to plug in to make it work. And the plug was... wait for it...
RIGHT NEXT TO THE GAS CAP.

I rewired it using the aforementioned switched power source. (And NOT next to the gas cap).

This is the block that I used on my ST 1300 then moved it over to GL1500 when I sold the ST. It was designed by a ST 1300 rider years ago. It has a 30 amp relay built in. You can have always on circuits and ones that are controlled by the relay. I powered the on/off for the relay through the acc. terminal on the bike fuse panel. Power came from the battery.

Ill mention Eastern Beaver power solutions. Ive used several of his 3 circuit solutions and his fuse boxes over the years on dual sport and adventure bikes that notoriously don't come with any outlets.
