Looking at a used 91 1500 need info
I am looking to buy a used 91 GL1500I interstate. The current owner states it will not shift out of neutral. He also states "Engine runs but can't get the bike to shift, Rebuilt slave cylinder and Fresh oil change ". I have asked what happens when he tries to shift out of neutral but am still waiting on an answer. Any suggestions on what may be wrong would be appreciated.
Thank you,
Rex

How about shifting out of neutral without the engine running?
Are you sure you want an Interstate? Reverse can be real nice on a half ton bike.

My advice would be to walk away and look for a later model Aspencade of SE.RexAubrey wrote: ↑Mon Sep 25, 2023 11:25 pm I am looking to buy a used 91 GL1500I interstate. I wouldn't take it even if it was free.
Could be a LOT of work to fix it.

Take the HINT.
Won't return an answer = walk away.

He replied. Shuts down when putting it in gear. Not sure if he has the side stand up or not.

Re: Looking at a used 91 1500 need info
I have the 91-i, it performed quite well for me, 244,000 miles.
3 places to look.
Side-stand switch, look at dash for side stand light.
Clutch handle brass barrel, is the hole worn oval or maybe the pin has worn through?
Clutch has 2 switches. On mine I was able to glue some extra surface on the switch since it was worn down. Worked ever since.
BIG QUESTION IS, 4th gear shifting issue???
.

There is no shortage of Gold Wings. Keep looking, have patience.
That's not just a motorcycle. It's a Gold Wing.

There are so many GWs available without this to worry about. Keep looking!

First post
Hope this helps:
Just bought an 89 SE that sat covered outside few years I think for 1200$.
Had the petcock missing and was told it ran before HE got it. Took the chance and towed home. Primed the fuel and jumboxed it, vroom!
Rebuilt the petcock that was in the trunk, and put a used battery in and fired it again. Pulled the clutch and kicked it down, leaped forward and died. Found the clutch fluid down. Flushed and bled, works now.
So, it could be something simple as this, or your clutch master cylinder is bad, leaking. Or worse, the clutch inside is toast which imho, isn’t.
My bike only has 50k.
