1996 GL1500 SE ECU/Fuel Pump Issue. Need Help

Post by Hades02 »

The original fuel pump was bad as it was not priming. This was confirmed with the service manual test procedure. Replaced the fuel pump and fuel pump still would not prime. Used the service manual procedure to short the fuel pump and it primes so new pump is good. I am leaning towards the ECU being damaged as well probably caused by the original faulty pump.

I'm trying to find the correct ECU part number and cannot find it. The only numbers on the bike's ECU are MAF SE 583E 5331U. However when I try to look this up, google returns nothing. I've looked on the parts microfiche and cannot find the ECU listed anywhere. Searched Ebay using "1996 GL1500 ECU" and came up with 30410-MZ3-772 but that shows a different set of numbers on the case (MZ3 583F 3215U)

Anyone know the correct part number or where I can find it for a 1996 GL1500 SE?

Several questions. What do you mean by "primes" The 1500s after 89 do not run the fuel pump when you turn on the key. Since carbs have bowls full of fuel, priming is not required like a fuel injected bike. Once the ignition is firing, the fuel pump turns on.
The Honda part number is 30410-MZ3-772 for late 1993-2000. I believe anything after 1990 will work, but they did change part number during 93, so YMMV. Of course these are no longer available new.
There is a transistor in the ECU that runs the fuel pump. Here is a post on checking and replacing it.

Thank you for the response Rambozo. I guess I have some more learning to do about Goldwings because every other motorcycle brand and model that I have worked on, carbed or fuel injected, the fuel pump primes when ignition is set to on and button is set to run. It'll pump for a second or two (make a whirring noise).
