starter relay

Post by Nlmman47 »

hello, i have an 92 1500. it was turning over but yesterday i went out there to get ready to test my fuel pump and turn the key on no lights come on. the only thing that came on was the lcd (barely) and sounds like clicking noises from starter relay b. i saw some youtube and one said with the b relay not working you wont get the lights. can some one help me diagnose the ignition. aka start. also how best to test the fuel pump.

I'd suspect you just have a dead battery.
If you were messing with it yesterday, you may have just switched the key off to the ACC position instead of all the way off, causing your battery to drain overnight.
If you have a meter or test light, just check the battery voltage. Or just charge it for a couple hours and try again.

It seems to drop I will check with a good battery and hope it will fix it. The bike been sitting a number of years but it fired up with some fuel starter. But fuel pump is not working. Is there a quick way to test the pump

Sure, unplug the fuel pump and remove the hose. Jump the pump to the battery and run a hose into a container. Measure the fuel pumped out vs time. The specs are in the service manual.
It's usually an issue of working or not, but if the flow is too low the intake screen could be clogged.

If not an OEM pump, be sure to measure the pressure before using it. The carbs can only handle around 2 psi before flooding over. Many aftermarket pumps are 7 psi, way too high.
If the one you get is good, post the info here. People are always looking for a good pump. Napa had one, but they changed manufacturers and now it's too high pressure.

I emailed the guy I got it from and he said it was 7 psi. But it has been working without any problems. I hope it continues

I am running these OSIAS pumps on 2 different Wings and so far, so good. But, if I was going on a trip I'd carry a spare.

That's not just a motorcycle. It's a Gold Wing.
