Reverse gear

Post by Ostracize »

Hello.
My reverse gear only works for a few seconds.
I have checked the cable adjustment and it fits.
Microswitch on the lever is new.
Clutch switch works.
Reverse switch on the gearbox works.
As soon as I push the reverse lever slightly forward, the reverse light goes out and the neutral light comes on, it works. Can anyone give me any advice?
Surely someone has already had similar problems.

If you have a 95 Goldwing, check the relay under the trunk. That's where my problem was.

Hello, were you able to solve it? as? I have a similar problem, it only works for a few seconds and intermittently, then it dies until I take it off and put it back on. Its a GL 88
At night and at 100 it is not noticeable.

Sounds like it's tripping the reverse over current or over speed safety. I seem to recall that the 88-89 bikes are a bit different, but on the later bikes there is a resistor pack and a group of power control relays that can cause that. There is also an over speed fuse, but I think you get nothing if that is blown. Again, check the wiring diagram for your 88-89 to see how that system is done.

I already have the diagram from 1988 that my friend Jordan gave me, I checked the wiring and the relays but they are not the problem. What function does the clutch perform in reverse?

Reverse is blocked if the clutch is pulled or the sidestand is down.

That works fine, I checked the brake and clutch contacts, and the side foot, all normal, now I'm checking the diodes and all the wiring up to there. I'm starting to suspect the reverse controller.

Do you have the resistor pack on that version? I don't see that year listed, but it could be a different part number.

Solved my reverse problem. After checking all the cables I noticed that there was one that comes out of Switch B, in the 88 and 89 models the cable is orange, from the 90 onwards it is pink. It passes through a 5 Amp fuse that is next to the battery, or there, and goes directly to the reverse controller. I plugged it in and it was solved. What happened was that when I pressed the start/reverse button it would go 3 or 4 times, intermittently, and then it would die. Now it works well although on the central foot, I did not put it on the floor because the plastic is disassembled and with many things around it.
