Tachometer not working

Post by Megreenusmc1969 »

Good Afternoon,

I was out starting up my 1991 Goldwing GL1500a Trike, it started right up, tachometer was working, but I did not have the choke on so it died. I was able to get it started right back up with the choke, but now nothing from the tachometer. Starts up and runs fine, but Tachometer does nothing. Could not find anything on a fuse or relay. Wanted to reach out to the group to see if there was something to look at that was fairly easy? I saw some articles, mainly about the ECU, but wanted to see if there was anything I could do prior to taking off the plastic?

Thanks in advance,
Mark G.

You may be able to jam your hand up behind the dash without taking anything apart and see if jiggling the wires does anything. That should be an easy start.
That's not just a motorcycle. It's a Gold Wing.

If it continues, the Tachometer has nuts to tighten the wire connectors on the back side.
I found this on my 99SE years ago and had to tighten the nuts to get it to work.
To get to the nuts is a lot of work as you have to remove the guage assembly from the fairing and take off the back cover to access the nuts.
If you look in the how to section, look for the title of how to change your dash lights to led. Wing admin explains how to remove the assembly and open it up.

Thanks GD2, jiggling didn't help any. Speedo still works, so that is at least a positive.

Thanks,
Mark

Thanks newday777, I'll have to give it a shot this weekend, when I am off of work. I'll let you know once I give it a shot.
