Has anyone had experience using the Caltric air filter sold by amazon? Are they good or bad?
Also where can I purchase belt tensioners for the timing belts on the gl1500

You can get tensioners from Honda or there are instructions on how to rebuild yours.

By just reading Amazon's Reviews it seems the shipping causes the air cleaner's metal frame to twist (easily corrected).
I bought an Amazon filter decade+ ago & noticed it wasn't an OEM fit.
By holding one corner in the outer rim's groove & working the way around it will fit but tight.
I used a heat gun to soften around the metal frame then press said frame downward until cool, then the air cleaners top cover fit fine.
Later time opening the housing I used a Dremel to grind a taper on the filters inner edge. That allows the filters edge to self center.

Bit of work just to save $20-30 but to me it's worth it since I have the tools. Besides, I like a challenge.... once.

.
When I do one thing, I'll sidestep a little & learn many things.

I just replaced my air filter a couple of days ago. I used a Big Bike Parts B5-415 I got from Cyclemax. It was a drop-in replacement and fit right in. I'm pretty sure it still had the original filter in it. Pretty dirty, but nothing like what's on the filter of shame topic. The OEM did look a little better and has some differences in design with some metal mesh on both sides. But maybe that was only back in the day as all the images I see don't look like what I took out.
